MLK “Appreciate the Dream Through Health” Virtual Cooking Class

MEDIA ADVISORY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Riviera Beach CRA and Riviera Beach CDC offered a virtual cooking class on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to show appreciation of the dream through health. This class was hosted by Chef Richard, from Culinary Flair. Residents were asked to sign up ahead of time and drive up to the Community Gardens at 10th Street between 12pm-3pm the day of the event, where they were handed through their car window, fresh greens picked from the garden for the recipe.

The class took place through Zoom at 6pm that evening. Chef Richard cooked from his house with three cameras, as you see above in the photo. The twenty-three people that attended the class were able to cook in their own kitchens at the same time and ask questions as they went along with the process. This class informed the community about how growing your own fresh vegetables in your home garden were not just good for you, but easy to cook and very tasty.

At the end of the class, Chef Richard had a question-and-answer session that opened the floor up to any questions on nutrition and healthy recipes, while everyone was waiting on their greens to finish cooking. After the meal was plated by the Chef, the participates were invited to share their meals on screen. It was a great interactive event that everyone that attended enjoyed and the meal was mighty tasty to enjoy after.

The Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency

The Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency is at the heart of dramatic transformations underway within the district. Formed in 1984 by the Riviera Beach City Council, the Riviera Beach CRA provides funding for a wide scope of projects that incentivize economic growth through business attraction and retention; finances and new and improved infrastructure for real estate projects; and generally works to expand the tax base by creating a welcoming environment that eliminates blight and improves the perception of safety in the area.

The Agency’s main mission is to guide the city’s redevelopment efforts. This includes making investments of public funds in key infrastructure improvement projects that have the capacity to act as a catalyst for additional private funding and development, create jobs and help to improve the quality of life for city residents.
